Tehsil, district admns causing embarrassment to ministers

FAISALABAD, Oct 16: The failure of tehsil and district administrations to answer the questions put by the Punjab Assembly members are adding to the problems of the treasury.
Sources said both the administrations had not been taking interest in furnishing details sought by the MPAs. The incomplete or no information on a subject caused embarrassment to the ministers concerned on the floor of the house, they added.
They said on a number of occasions it was observed that the DCOs did not bother even to countersign the replies.
To avoid such problems in future, the Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RD) had refused to accept such information without countersign of the DCO concerned.
They quoted a letter sent by the LG&RD department to the DCOs in this regard. It said: “It is noted with grave concern that the provincial assembly business is not being taken up seriously by the field formations. In most of the cases, the update position is not reflected.
“In future, it has, therefore, been decided that the cases relating to assembly business would not be received in the LG&RD unless the DCOs or TMA officers concerned countersign such documents.”
