ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday suspended membership of 45 parliamentarians and barred them from working as elected representative for failing to submit annual statements of assets and liabilities by the September 30 deadline.

Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Mohammed Dilshad confirmed to Dawn that among those suspended, one belongs to the Senate and 10 to the National Assembly. Besides, 16 of those suspended are from the NWFP Assembly, 15 from the Punjab Assembly, one from the Sindh Assembly and two from the Balochistan Assembly.

The secretary only divulged the identity of suspended senator Sanaullah Baloch of Balochistan National Party (Mengal), and said the names of the remaining 44 members would be notified on Tuesday.—Staff Reporter
