Supply of gas to Hub disrupted

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Oct 15: Gas supply has been suspended to the industrial estate and other areas of the Hub township after the main pipeline was blown up on Sunday.

Police sources said that a 12 inch-diameter pipeline supplying gas to Hub industrial estate and some parts of the industrial town blew up at around 9:30pm near the Civic Centre, just a few yards from the Hub police station.

After the blast traffic was also suspended at the Quetta-Karachi highway wing to gas leakage. “Dozens of industrial units have been affected as gas supply was completely suspended to the area,” the sources said.

They said that initial investigations revealed that the pipeline exploded due to gas pressure, but subversion act could not be ruled out. The gas supply could not be restored till late night.

Meanwhile, a hand grenade was thrown into the house of one Mohammad Asif in the Shafi Colony near the Balochistan University. The grenade exploded in the backyard. Doors and windows of the house were badly damaged.

However, no casualty was reported. According another report, an explosion device went off in the official residence of a jailer in Zhob on Sunday night. A wall was damaged, but nobody was hurt.
