LAHORE, Oct 15: The four-year-old filly, Trace Hit decisively outclassed a small field of champions when landing the October Cup run over 1600m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The filly raced up with the pace throughout and was clear of his rivals with a burst of speed right from the start.

She made up with the last stride at the finishing post defeating long chaser Sher-e-Gujrat by a head while River Dancer finished third, five lengths further behind.

The owner Khawaja M. Arif received the cup from LRC senior steward, Malik Hamid Ali Noon soon after the race.

Earlier odds-on favourite bay filly Noor produced an excellent turn of foot in the final 200m to win the Islamabad Cup over 1200m.

She beat Julia Robert by about four lengths. Great Murad and Jewna completed the board among 14 starters. The Jockey Club of Pakistan (JCP) steward, Javed Khalid gave away the cup to the winning owner.

The Nursery Cup run over 900m was annexed by Princess Of Gujrat, who registered a comfortable win over Scarlet O' Hara by nine lengths.

Mubashara and Royal King completed the frame among eight runners. Winning owner Hassan Pervez Akhtar received the cup from LRC steward Syed Pervez Hussain Shah.

Jockey Shahid Rehman exhibited fine horsemanship riding home three winners. He piloted home Philosopher, Noor and Fajr in the first, fourth and fifth races, respectively. Haji Ghulam Sarwar sent out two winners, Fajr and Trace Hit in the fifth and sixth race.

The third race ended in an exciting finish between Bone Crusher and Hero's Hope, both horses crossed the finishing line locked together.

The magic eye of the camera separated both and gave the short-head verdict in favour of the former.
