MIANWALI, Oct 15: District education officials have cancelled transfer orders of 17 headmasters and headmistresses of high schools.

Heads of schools have been transferred to administrative posts.

Sources say the district education authorities have bowed to the pressure of teachers’ association.

The district nazim has taken notice of the situation and assigned these headmasters and headmistresses additional charge of administrative posts they have initially been transferred against.

According to a survey, of 85 high schools in Mianwali district, 67 schools are working without headmasters or headmistresses.

The district education department has also not yet finalised the list of 274 educators, including 85 females, who were supposed to join schools from the new academic year i.e. September, 2006.

According to the latest survey, the district has 74 `ghost’ schools.

Social circles have asked the Punjab chief minister to look into the matter.
