Swift justice vital to check crime

SIALKOT, Oct 15: Speakers at the `Mehfooz Punjab’ seminar have linked controlling of heinous crimes with the swift provision of justice to the people.

They said the early provision of justice had become vital to establish sustainable peace in the province.

The seminar was held at the residence of Baitul Maal provincial parliamentary secretary Mrs Shehla Shahid Butt at Wadala Sindhuan village at Daska on Sunday. Provincial Minister for Special Education Qudsia Lodhi presided over the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Qudsia Lodhi said the Punjab government was spending Rs20 billion on police reforms under the Punjab Chief Minister’s Vision 2020 for promoting good policing, bridging the gap between police and public and rebuilding the public confidence on police.

She said that every effort was being made to ensure the early provision of justice to all the oppressed people. She sought the active cooperation of the people in purging the Punjab from crimes and criminals.

Addressing the seminar, Sialkot DPO Zubair Nawaz Chattha said that the police patrol system along banks of all canals and link roads was being made more effective to check the robbery incidents.

He sought active cooperation of local journalists, lawyers, traders and local body representatives in eradicating the area of lawbreakers.

The DPO vowed to make all out efforts for providing security of life and property to the local business community.

Mr Chattha said that with the help of the business community and the banking sector close circuit cameras would be installed in banks, commercial centres, bazaars, markets and important public places to overcome the menace of robberies and dacoities.

Sialkot district Ushr and Zakat Committee chairman Shafqat Elahi Ghuman, Daska Bar Association president Riaz Ahmad Ghuman, Sialkot district Public Safety Commission member Malik Jameel Akhtar advocate and Daska ASP Tanveer Alam Odho also spoke on the occasion.
