KARACHI, Oct 15: Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil has said that a cardiac disease research centre would soon be established at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, Gulberg Town, and the hospital would be provided with another angiographic machine forthwith.

“The city government also plans to make the facility of bypass surgery available at the hospital so that the people of this part of Karachi could get such health facilities close to their vicinity,” she said this while talking to Dr Abdul Samad, Executive Director of the Institute at her office.

Dr Abdul Samad apprised Nasreen Jalil about the efforts being made for setting up of research centre at the institute after the approval of resolution in this respect by the City Council. He said that work had been started with the cooperation of Dow Medical College.

He said that PC-I of the Phase-II of hospital had been prepared and added that currently ETT, ECG, ECO, modern lab and other facilities were available at the hospital. The cardiac patients were given free injection here for which the other hospitals charge Rs5,000. Moreover, a very nominal fee is charged here for the treatment, he added.

The hospital OPD had 550 patients a day at its early days and now the number of such patients has surpassed 1,200. The hospital has 120-bed facility.

He said that about 50 per cent of the patients at this hospital were coming for bypass surgery while 40 per cent for angiography. The hospital charged only Rs3,000 for angiography, he added.

Meanwhile, talking to the adviser to federal ministry of finance Dr Junaid Ahmed, Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil said that the city government would identify the sectors and projects for foreign investors.

She said that Karachi Nazim Mustafa Kamal would be requested to issue directives to the departments concerned in this respect.

Dr Junaid apprised her about the Investment Conference being organised here in December. The conference would be participated by local and Saudi investors, he said and requested Ms Jalil to identify the sectors and projects that could be presented at the conference to the investors.—PPI
