SIALKOT, Oct 13: The Agricultural Implements Manufacturer Association, Daska, has urged the government to impose a ban on the import of laser system with immediate effect for boosting the national farm machinery manufacturing industry.

This was stated by association president Mirza Munawar Hussain while talking to reporters at Daska on Friday.

He said the government was providing the imported laser scrapers to farmers in every district on subsidized rates of Rs160,000 each under the Punjab chief minister’s Green Laser Land-leveling Scheme, enabling farmers to enhance their per acre yield and saving the irrigation water.

The locally-made laser scraper, he claimed, was not only Rs70,000 cheaper than the imported one but also much better in quality and performance. He said a large-scale import of laser scrapers was badly hampering the local production.

URGES: The National Labour Federation has urged the government to announce a special Eid allowance of Rs2,000 each for labourers.
