EXPELLED: The University of Karachi terminated the services of one of its employees, Mansoor Niaz, a computer lab supervisor, who had tried to harass a female student at the varsity couple of months back.
An official of the varsity told that a decision in this regard was taken following recommendations of an inquiry committee, which under clause 4(g) of the University of Karachi Employees Efficiency rules dismissed the services of Mansoor Niaz with immediate effect.
He informed that the inquiry committee, led by senior professors also took action against two of Mansoor Niaz's accomplices and both messengers Mohammad Zafar and Mohammad Azam Naeem's annual increments and promotions were withheld for a period of two years.
In detailed recommendations, the committee stated that all three employees of the varsity went beyond their jurisdiction without any authority and ‘attempted to body search a female candidate’.
It may be recalled here that the University of Karachi remained under fire from various quarters after three of its employees had tried to molest a female LLB candidate before the start of exam at varsity's Islamic Learning faculty office but failed on her resistance.—Agencies
