Timely action prevents inundation

KASUR, Oct 12: A 150-yard breach occurred in BRB link canal near Mianwali headworks on Wednesday night, creating panic in surrounding villages.

Dist nazim Rana M Hayat, tehsil nazim Agha Naveed Hashim Rizvi, DPO Syed Ahmed Mobeen and volunteers reached the spot and broke the bund of Pandoki drain, which facilitated flow of canal water into the drain.

Villagers of Mianwali and Pandoki reached the spot and helped them after announcements in various mosques.

Later, villagers Allah Bux and Din Muhammad said in-time action had saved many a villages and standing crops from inundation.

They also accused irrigation department officials of constructing defective headwork and bund.

‘KILLER’ LIZARD: Two sisters died after drinking water poisoned by a lizard here on Thursday at Chak No 13 in Pattoki police limits.

Reports said Umar’s daughters Haleema and Sobia drank water from a pitcher at Sehr. After some time, they were rushed to a local hospital where they died.

Later, a dead lizard was found from the pitcher.

Police have handed over bodies to the family after necessary investigation.
