KARACHI: City govt told to take steps against spread of mosquitoes

KARACHI, Oct 10: The Sindh health minister wrote a letter to the Karachi city nazim, urging him to take measures against the menace of high grade fever and dengue virus related cases as 30 new patients suspected of viral haemorrhagic fever were admitted to five hospitals in the city on Tues-day.
The focal person of the dengue fever cell of the Sindh government, Capt (retd) Abdul Majid told Dawn that the number of cases of in-house suspected viral fever cases had reached 99, including 30 those admitted on Tuesday.
A maximum of 12 patients reported to Liaquat National Hospital during the day.
Other hospitals where new cases were reported on Tuesday are: Ziauddin Hospital (nine cases), Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (five), and Civil Hospital Karachi (four).
Captain Majid said tha the Sindh health minister Syed Sardar Ahmad in a letter to City Nazim, has urged appropriate measures against dengue fever as it was high time now.
The miniter was of the opinion that City District Government of Karachi should address the issues of fogging or fumigation, health education and surveillance of dengue related cases properly and on top priority basis, said Mr Majid, who is also additional secretary health.
