Shaukat arrives; keen to win gold medal

KARACHI, Oct 9: Top cueist Shaukat Ali said on Monday he was keen to repeat his gold medal feat in Doha Asian Games in December.

“It will be my and my team's objective to strike the gold in the Asian Games and bring the glory and honor for the country,” Pakistan's player cum snooker coach said on his arrival from the UK.

The Pakistan Sports Board has requested Shaukat to participate in the Asian Games besides training Pakistan snooker team.

“Despite settled in the UK I have not surrendered my Pakistani nationality,” Shaukat, ranked 45 in world professional circuit, said.

The 36-year-old player said he was highly disappointed for not receiving a congratulatory letter from the Pakistan government or National Olympic Committee despite winning the first-ever snooker singles gold in Bangkok Asian Games eight years ago.—APP
