PESHAWAR, Oct 9: People demonstrated extreme patience and bravely met the challenges of large-scale destruction caused by last year’s earthquake.
This was stated by provincial Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Amanullah Haqqani at a function arranged by Al-Akhtar Trust International for distribution of food stuff in a tent village in Mansehra district on Monday.
It was the courage and valour of the people, philanthropists, donor agencies, social welfare organisations that greatly helped in rehabilitation of the quake victims as the government alone could not meet its devastating effects.
He hailed the welfare activities of the trust in the quake-hit areas and said the government’s resources were not enough to reach every victim and the huge task was not possible if donors and the welfare organisations did not support in the rehabilitation activities.
He called upon other social welfare organisations to expedite their work in the quake-stricken areas so that the victims could be properly compensated.
Naib Nazim Mansehra Mufti Kifayatullah in his address on the occasion eulogised the services of Al-Akhtar Trust in helping people. The function was also addressed by Attaulah Shahab and Tariq Abbas of Al-Akhtar Trust.
The minister later distributed edibles items loaded in two trucks.
REHABILITATION ASSURED: NWFP Minister for Social Welfare, Zakat and Ushr Hafiz Hashmat Khan said on Monday that the MMA government was utilising all available resources for the rehabilitation of quake victims.
This he said during his visit to a photo exhibition jointly arranged by the information and cultural departments of the NWFP at the Nishtar Hall here.
The exhibition had been arranged in connection with the first anniversary of October 8, 2005, devastating earthquake.
The minister said urged the international community to fulfil its pledges regarding the provision of financial assistance and relief goods for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the quake victims.—APP
