KARACHI, Oct 9: A large number of special children had over a couple of hours of fun at a magic show and an iftar party organised by a noted artist and social worker at a foreign fast food outlet on Monday.
Magicians kept the handicapped children spellbound with their various tricks. The children looked amazed and clapped loudly and continuously at the end of each trick and urged the magicians to show some other tricks till the iftar time.
Speaking on the occasion, the social worker said that he had been organising such functions for the handicapped children by taking them out to five star hotels and restaurants etc for over three years now so that the special children could also have fun that their normal counterparts had as a matter of routine.
He urged the parents of special children not to feel shy or hide their children rather he urged them to take their children out in the public places like parks, playgrounds etc so that they came in to contact with the normal children and with more interaction the special children would also feel confident.
He said that the governments in the western countries provided many facilities to the special people but here they were not even given what were their due rights. He said that though the government had fixed quota in employment for the special people, it was rarely implemented.
The social worker also urged philanthropists to come forward and provide whatever assistance they could to the institutions that were providing training and education to the handicapped people.
Special children who participated in the function belonged to Darul Sukoon, Ma-Ayesha, Al-Rozan, Madular, Scinosa, Agosh, Madawa etc.
