Seven militants, 2 troops killed in Kashmir

JAMMU, Oct 8: Indian troops on Sunday shot dead seven Kashmiri militants in two gunbattles in occupied Kashmir, while a senior army officer and a soldier were also killed, officials said.

The first firefight took place in the Sowjain region, spokesman Colonel R.K. Chibber said.

“The infiltration bid has been successfully foiled with the killing of three militants,” he said, adding that one soldier was also killed in the incident.

In Bakhtoor, four militants and a officer of the rank of lieutenant colonel were killed, a spokesman said. Three soldiers were injured.—AFP
