LAHORE, Oct 8: Master rider Shahid Rehman rode fancied bay filly, Ferrari, to win the Park View Society Cup run over 1300 metres during the 6th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Ferrari took up the running 200 metres to go on and beat Sohna Billoo by half a length. Trump Coup and Great Murad completed the frame among a dozen starters.

Her victory gave Shahid Rehman a good double when earlier he had piloted home three to one chance, Desert Queen in the third race. Running ahead of the field she beat King Of Murad by two lengths.

The biggest disappointment of the race was the bay filly Lovely Gate who failed to live up to her status of favouritism and finished third.

Jockey Aamir Pervez also brought in a brace of winners through Jut Bahadur and Toru Khan in the fifth and sixth race, respectively.

Bay colt Toru Khan, ridden by Aamir Pervez, ended the winning streak of Quince when the colt found an extra energy in the home stretch and strode away to land the Class IV event run over 1300 metres. As Toru Khan drew level Quince looked in trouble and was beaten by a distance.

Trainer M. R. Khan also saddled two winners, Bad-e-Naseem in the first race and Jut Bahadur in the fifth. Jut Bahadur beat War Admiral by half a length. Veteran jockey Salahuddin II resumed riding on Sunday and rode two horses, both were placed third.

Chestnut colt Dashing Paradise, who was given a splendid ride by jockey M. Hanif, caused the biggest upset of the day in the second race. He beat Bahar-e-Bhakkar by one and a half length after nosing out favourite Blue Fire to third place.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards were not satisfied with the performance of Dogar Gift in the opener. They fined Rs5000 to riding boy Atif Javaid for not riding the mare on merit.

Four favourites obliged the punters in a card of six events.

Midway through the proceedings the race-goers observed a one-minute silence in memory of those killed in the devastating earthquake in Azad Kashmir and NWFP, on this day last year.
