QUETTA, Oct 8: Leaders of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party have urged the government to stop military operations in Balochistan and Waziristan and resolve the issues through dialogues, instead of using state apparatus to suppress political struggles.
They were speaking at a seminar held at the Zarif Shaheed auditorium of the Government Science College on Saturday on the eve of the death anniversary of the people killed in police firing during a procession of the MRD on Oct 7, 1983, and in an attack on the party secretariat on Oct 11, 1991.
Party secretary-general Akram Shah presided over the seminar.
Party leaders Dr Kalimullah, Abdur Rauf, Qahar Khan, Dr Hamid Achakzai, Usman Kakar and Nasrullah Zeray paid tribute to the victims.
They criticised the military government and called upon political and democratic forces to launch a joint struggle against the Gen Musharraf regime.
They said the party had been struggling for unification of all Pakhtun areas in one political administrative entity which should either be named Pakthunkhwa, Pakhtunistan or Afghania.
They regretted that the 1973 Constitution had been distorted by the military rulers through amendments.
They said a new social contract was needed to make a fresh constitution according to the 1940 Resolution.
