MUZAFFARABAD, Oct 7: More than 2,000 students paraded on the main road here on Saturday, a day ahead of the anniversary of last year’s earthquake, to express resolve to rebuild the devastated region.
The march – Azm-i-Tameer Nau Rally – was organised by the Muslims Hands International, a UK-based Muslim charity, in collaboration with the Al Mustafa Welfare Organisation. Later, participants of another rally, organised by the Read Foundation of Pakistan, joined them.
Boys and girls from different schools wearing colourful uniforms walked patiently carrying placards inscribed with slogans in Urdu and English regarding their future needs and rehabilitation. “We have the courage to face the problem,” read one placard.
The students who attended the Read Foundation rally held placards highlighting the importance of education. “Education is real rehabilitation. Help us what we actually need,” a placard read.
