PESHAWAR, Oct 7: A 60-bed hospital housed in a newly- built prefabricated structure will start functioning in Garhi Habibullah after inauguration by President General Pervez Musharraf on Sunday.
President Musharraf is also scheduled to visit the devastated city of Balakot, situated some 13km from Garhi Habibullah.
The president will also visit Hazara University to inspect its academic block functioning in a recently set up prefabricated structure.
During his visit to the quake-affected areas of NWFP, the president is scheduled to address a public meeting at Hazara university, according to Taimur Ahmed, deputy general secretary of the Mansehra district chapter of PML-Q.
Garhi Habibullah’s prefabricated hospital has been put in place at the site of old premises of hospital which was destroyed by the earthquake.
The new facility which, according to Erra’s Chairman Altaf Saleem, could cater for the needs of the people of the area for next 60 to 70 years would work till the time permanent concrete structures are built to house the hospital.
Officials said that the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, which has extended financial support to establish the health facility, would also finance construction of a full-fledged hospital at Garhi Habibullah.
The new health facility involves higher number of beds and is equipped with modern equipment to conduct minor operations.
The old hospital had 12 beds while the new facility will have 60 beds. Government High School for Girls has also been built with prefabricated material.
The girls schools, funded by the owner of a sugar mill of Rahim Yar Khan, has been built on the site of old double-storey building which collapsed killing more than 250 girl students during the earthquake.
