KARACHI: Tribute paid to Sachal

KARACHI, Oct 7: Sachal Sarmast was a poet of the past, present and the future, said the resident director of Pakistan Academy of Letters Agha Noor Muhammad Pathan.

He was speaking at a seminar on Sachal Sarmast organised by PAL Karachi here on Saturday.

Agha Noor pointed out that Sachal’s poetry was as popular as it had been in the past. He said that in his poetry Sachal depicted the history and peculiar atmosphere of Sindh.

Shah Abdul Latif University Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Abdul Rahim Malik said that Scahal was a contemporary of Wali Deccani, Mir Dard and Mir Taqi Mir.

Prof Afaq Siddiqui, Parveen Javed, Altaf Asim, Nazir Channa, Dr Zulfiqar Sial also spoke. Dr Tahir Toonsvi’s book on Sachal Sarmast was also launched.—APP
