LAHORE, Oct 6: PML-N joint secretary Siddiqul Farooq says his party on returning to power will set up a commission which will thoroughly probe the Kargil conflict which embittered the otherwise improving relations between Pakistan and India.

At a news conference here on Friday, he said countries like China, Saudi Arabia and those in G-8 had advised Pakistan to withdraw from Kargil or it would stand isolated in the world community.

A former press secretary to the prime minister, Mr Farooq claimed that Gen Musharraf had admitted at a high level meeting that Mujahideen would be wiped out in case the way was not paved for their withdrawal.

He said Gen Musharraf had also urged then prime minister Nawaz Sharif to take steps to bring the conflict to an end.

To substantiate his point, he said record showed that the general had told reporters that Mr Sharif and then US president Bill Clinton would meet soon to discuss the Kargil situation.

The PML-N leader alleged that facts had been twisted in the book written by Gen Musharraf.
