PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Students of many educational institutions in the Frontier province on Friday boycotted their classes in protest against the telecast by a Norwegian TV channel of a documentary on Muslims’ protests against publication of sacrilegious cartoons in European newspapers.
The boycott call was given by the Islami Jamiat Talaba, the student wing of the Jamaat-i-Islami, says a press release issued here on Friday. The controversial documentary was recently aired by the Norwegian TV.
In Peshawar, students staged a protest rally after boycotting classes and blocked the GT Road for several hours. In Nowshera, Dargai, Mardan, Swabi, Takht Bhai, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Hangu and other town of the NWFP they held protest demonstrations and blocked main roads.
Leaders of the IJT blamed European countries for intentionally committing blasphemies one after another. “But the more they suppress Muslims, the more Islam spreads there,” they said.
They urged the government to severe diplomatic relations with those countries where the blasphemous documentary was broadcast.
