KARACHI: City govt official among eight jailed


KARACHI, Oct 6: The city government officials with magisterial powers on Friday imposed fines to the tune of Rs487,400 on 274 shopkeepers and sent five people to jail for overcharging.

Separately, DDO (Revenue) Clifton conducted raid on a Bachat Bazaar in DHA and awarded seven-day jail term with a fine of Rs10,000 to the organisers of the bazaar, Saeed Ahmed and Suleman Baloch under the Profiteering and Hoarding Act.

In case of default on payment of the fine money, they would have to undergo another seven-day term. E&IP inspector Aslam Baloch, who was also awarded seven-day imprisonment for complicity in the offence, managed to escape. Warrants for his arrest have been issued.—PPI
