PPP welcomes Gillani’s release

Published October 6, 2006

RAWALPINDI, Oct 5: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) welcomed the Lahore High Court’s decision to release former National Assembly speaker Yousaf Raza Gillani on bail.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, PPP Rawalpindi Chapter leaders Agha Riazul Islam, Qazi Sultan Mehmood, Mian Khuram Rasul, Rasheed Mir, Nasir Mir, Tahir Gondal, Rana Suhail Pasha and others also demanded of the government to withdraw baseless cases against party chairperson Benazir Bhutto and her spouse Asif Ali Zardari.

They said the present regime had instituted false cases against the party leadership and despite the lapse of 10 years, the government could not prove its allegations.

They said Yousaf Raza Gillani did not bow his head before the present regime and stood on his ground.
