Wildlife day observed

Published October 5, 2006

ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: The wildlife day was observed on Wednesday in Pakistan like other parts of the world.

The basic purpose to celebrate the day is to create public awareness to protect the wildlife as several species are being diminished rapidly, getting altogether eliminated either by the hazards of life or by the predators and hunters.

Experts say that heavy industrialisation across the world is polluting the environment. Deforestation is triggering the horrific global weather changes.

The wildlife, which adds to the beauty of the nature, remained unprotected for centuries until an alarm was raised at its fast diminution creating an ecological imbalance hazardous to the mother earth itself that led to the beginning of the global wildlife day in 1931 in the Italian city, Florence.

However, the world now celebrates the day on October 4 every year.—PPI
