KARACHI, Oct 4: A visiting Japanese professor, Hiroji Kataoka, called on the vice-chancellor of Karachi University, Dr Pirzada Qasim, on the campus on Wednesday.

They discussed academic and research matters, a Karachi university spokesman said. said there was unanimity of views on collaboration between Karachi University and Japan's Daito Bunka University as well as the faculty exchange programme.

Prof Kataoka told the vice-chancellor about the promotion of Urdu in Japan and the growing popularity of this language among the Japanese students.

The vice-chancellor lauded the services of Prof Kataoka to the promotion of the Urdu language.

The registrar of Karachi University, Prof Muhammad Rais Alvi and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Muhammad Shamsuddin were also present.

On the occasion, the vice-chancellor also presented the insignia of Karachi University to the Japanese professor. — APP
