NAWABSHAH, Oct 2: None of the three sugar mills in the district have started cane crushing in accordance with a notification issued by the Sindh government.

The sugar mills are: Habib Sugar Mills, Sakrand Sugar Mills and Al-Noor Sugar Mills.

An official of a sugar mills, told Dawn that mills could only start crushing after Eidul Fitr.

He said that transportation and labour mostly come from other parts of the country and they were not available during the month of Ramazan.

He said that rainwater was still standing in fields and on roads due to which it was not possible to start the crushing season.

KHAIRPUR: The manger of the Khairpur Sugar Mills has said that sugarcane crop in the Khairpur district was not ready due to which farmers have not started harvesting.

Talking to newsmen on Monday, he said that as soon as farmers would start harvesting the crop, the Khairpur Sugar Mills would start crushing.
