Your Honour obliges punters with facile win

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Oct 1: Fancied six-year-old chestnut Your Honour lived up to his top billing when he posted a facile five-length victory over mare Aie Bahar to claim honours in the supporting event of Summer Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

As predicted, Your Honour atoned to his previous loss with Arshad shining in the saddle. Aie Bahar who finished off the board in the last twelve outings was installed favourite in the betting ring but was outpaced by the eventual winner.

Finishing one-and-a-half length behind was colt Red Rufus while Thanks Naeem completed the frame.

Similarly, another favourite four-year-old chestnut colt Silent Angel obliged the punters when he edged out mare Velvet Green by five lengths to win the feature event and made it two on trot.

This was jockey M. Nasir’s first success of the day as he went on to complete a fine treble. His two other winners were Birj-ul-Arab and Smiling Face. He replaced Kashif Qamar on the former.

Birj-ul-Arab surprised all and sundry when he beat Fascinate by three lengths in a start to finish bid. Mir Sikandar finished third to be followed by Sweet Grandy.

Nasir completed his feat when he piloted mare Smiling Face to one and one quarter lengths victory over Sher Garh in the concluding event. Nasir could have added one more winner to his tally had hot favourite Hawk’s Bay not withdrawn in the preceding race which saw re-betting thrice.

Re-betting was ordered after filly Sky Girl was injured at the starting gate shortly before the start of sixth race. While the process was underway fancied Hawk’s Bay backed with confidence was withdrawn resulting yet another re-betting. The latter’s sudden withdrawl without any reason came as a big surprise.

Taking advantage of Hawk’s Bay’s absence, Cant Catch Me grabbed honours beating Aces High by two lengths.

Chestnut Field Commander and bay horse Azam The Great made amends of earlier losses by winning their respective races.
