QUETTA, Oct 1: Five people were killed and 10 injured in two clashes in the Mangochar area of Kalat district and Rind Ghar near Quetta on Sunday, police said.
According to police, two armed groups of Lango tribesmen took position against each other on the mountains in Mangochar and started firing at each other, using heavy weapons including machine guns and rockets.
“So far three tribesmen have been killed and seven injured,” official sources said, adding that firing was going on till late evening.
They said that the cause of the clash was a dispute between the two tribal groups over the ownership of a mountain in the area.
Heavy contingents of law-enforcement personnel were sent to the troubled area and local administration was making efforts for a ceasefire between the warring groups.
“We are making efforts with the help of some tribal elders to make the warring groups vacate their positions,” an official of Kalat administration said, adding that warring groups were not allowing anyone to take those injured to hospital.
Another clash took place between two armed groups of Barech and Rind tribesmen in the Rind Ghar area on the outskirts of the Quetta, killing two men and injuring three.
According to police sources, both the groups had a monetary dispute that resulted in the clash in which automatic weapons were used.
Mohammad Hasan Barech and Sher Zaman Rind were killed in the firefight. Those injured were taken to a hospital.
Police have registered a case against both the groups and taken many people into custody.
