QUETTA, Oct 1: A 12-year-old boy was killed in a landmine blast in Sibi district on Sunday. Four more blasts were reported from different areas of the province.

Police said the boy, a shepherd, was blown into pieces as he hit the landmine planted in the Lehri area of Sibi district, some 250km off here on Sunday.

A tanker, carrying oil for allied forces in Afghanistan, was blown up near the customs house in the border town of Chaman.

According to reports reaching here, the driver had parked the oil tanker near the customs house for inspection and went inside for completing legal formalities to cross into Afghanistan. However, soon the oil tanker caught fire following a powerful blast.

However, a senior police official said it was not confirmed what caused the tanker to catch fire. “Was it a blast or something else?” he said, adding that investigation was in progress.

There were two more blasts in Queeta and one in Kalat.

An unknown person hurled a hand-grenade on the house of one Mohammad Jan Qabrani in Faisal Town of Quetta. The grenade went off with a big bang, damaging a car and a portion of the house. Windowpanes of Qabrani’s house and those of other houses and a school were smashed .

Another explosion occurred near the house of Major (retd) Safiuulah Khan, head of an NGO. The home-made device, planted with the wall of the house also used for residential purpose, damaged a wall. However, there were no casualties.

A powerful explosion was also reported to have occurred in Ziarat, some 20km of Kalat.
