KARACHI, Oct 1: The city government officials with magisterial powers on Sunday imposed fines totalling Rs0.479 million on 306 and sent 11 others to jail for overcharging.

They conducted raids in various areas and imposed fines amounting to Rs27,450 on 43 grocers, Rs60,200 on 88 fruit sellers, Rs123,700 on 53 milk sellers, Rs82,800 on 38 meat sellers, Rs162,700 on 63 operators of shops dealing in various commodities, and Rs22,500 on 22 people selling items at higher prices than prescribed.

Nine people found indulged in profiteering in Gulshan Town were sent to jail for three days whereas one profiteer each in Liaquatabad and Shah Faisal towns were sent to jail for five days.—PPI
