KARACHI, Oct 1: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the ongoing work on roads and flyovers had to be completed before the mega event, IDEAS-2006 Exhibition, to be held in November.

The city nazim, along with the DCO Karachi Fazlur Rehman inspected the development work at the sites of National Stadium and Hasan Square flyovers and Gharibabad and Liaquatabad underpasses late Saturday night, according to a statement here on Sunday.

Expressing his satisfaction over the construction work being carried out at the National Stadium flyover, he pointed out that in the past, such uplift projects used to take years to see the day of completion but now they were being completed within months.

“The National Stadium flyover will be inaugurated soon while roads around the flyover have been carpeted to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” the nazim added.

He directed to fix curb-stones along side roads and remove the debris to give the area a neat look. Inspecting the work on Hasan Square flyover, the city nazim ordered to expedite the pace of work by employing more machinery and manpower.

He said the construction work under way at different roads leading to the Expo Centre had to be completed prior to the IDEAS-2006 Exhibition.

“When the foreign and domestic guests come to visit the exhibition, they would notice a positive change in the city as they would witness the presence of flyovers and underpasses completed within a short span of one year,” Mr Kamal remarked.—APP
