KARACHI, Sept 30: Top professional of the United Kingdom circuit, Shaukat Ali, is almost certain to represent Pakistan in the Doha Asian Games to be held in Qatar in December, secretary of the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association said on Saturday.

“Pakistan Olympic Association has sent the name of Shaukat Ali to Doha Asian Games organising committee,” adding “It will boost Pakistan’s chances of winning medals.”

Shaukat Ali won gold medal for Pakistan in the Asian Games in 1998 in Bangkok.

“Besides being appointed coach of the snooker team his presence will improve team’s performance,” the secretary said.

He also announced a 12-member Pakistan squad including Mohammad Yousuf, Naveen Perwani, Khurram Agha, Imran Shahzad, Farhan Mirza, Shaukat Ali, Sohail Shahzad, Vishan Gir, Rambel Gul, Salman Shaikh, Imtiaz Tipu and Syed Mesam Zaidi to participate in the Games.

Alamgir Shaikh, Abdul Wahid Qadir and Laeeq Ahmed will be officials of the team.—APP
