HYDERABAD: Minister praises Hesco for regularising ‘kundas’

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Sept 30: Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi showered praise on the task force and vigilance committees of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) for achieving the feat of regularising 56,325 kunda connections.

Mr Jatoi stressed in a meeting with Hesco officials on Friday to ensure uninterrupted supply of power to the consumers during the holy month of Ramazan.

About the country-wide power breakdown, he said that a technical fault caused it but the Wapda experts were successful in repairing it within the shortest possible time.

The transmission of power from grid stations would improve to a great extent after the installation of 16 more transformers. The company had already installed eight transformers, he said adding that four new grid stations would be constructed and five existing ones would be upgraded.

He directed the Hesco to put forward proposals for the upgradation of Qasimabad sub-division to division and announced that the company would receive Rs2.5 billion for improving its transmission system.

The Hesco chief executive briefed the minister about the company’s performance and said the vigilance teams had checked 33461 meters and replaced 81785 faulty ones.

The company electrified 1113 villages and was working on 1077 new projects. Tenders had been called from a foreign company for insulated conductors (plastic coated) and static meters (prepaid), he said.

SU: Academic activities in the newly-established Sindh University College Laar in Badin would commence from January 1, for the academic session of 2007 with admission to four-year programme in BBA (Hons), BS commerce and BS computer science starting from November this year.
