ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: Speaker of the National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain has said that Pakistan and Tunisia shared similar views on global issues and had common desire for regional peace and stability.

He was talking to Zouhaier Dhaoudi, ambassador of Tunisia, who called on him in the Parliament House here on Friday.

The speaker reiterated that Islam was religion of peace and tolerance but unfortunately there was misperception about Islam in the West which needed to be removed.

Stressing the need for promoting literacy and eliminating poverty in the Muslim countries, he said that poverty and illiteracy were the main causes of extremism.

Highlighting the need to strengthen OIC, the speaker said that the Muslim countries should jointly work to present the true picture of Islam in the West.

He said that Pakistan believed in peace and resolution of problems through negotiations and it had started peace process with India to resolve the core issue of Kashmir. He thanked the Tunisian government for lending support to Pakistan on all international forums.—PPI
