Ex-brigadier’s appointment as VC criticised

By Our Correspondent

MULTAN, Sept 29: The Federation of All-Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association has criticised the appointment of a former brigadier as the vice-chancellor of the Bolan University by the Balochistan governor.

In a press release issued here on Friday by Prof Dr Maher Saeed Akhtar, the vice-president of FAPUASA from Punjab University, Prof Dr Abdul Qudoos Sohaib, the president of FAPUASA from Bahauddin Zakariya University and executive body member, and others said they had already demanded that no former serviceman or bureaucrat should be appointed VC of any university because such an act was tantamount to usurping the rights of educationists.

In Punjab, they said, there was a procedure for the appointment of such posts as the authorities concerned first advertise the post and then receive applications whereas the Balochistan governor had appointed the Bolan University VC without following any procedure.

The academics demanded that some senior educationist should be installed at the university to improve educational and research atmosphere.
