KARACHI, Sept 29: District and Sessions Judge, South Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan awarded a cellular phone snatcher seven-year rigorous imprisonment on Friday.
The judge also fined the convict, Hafeez Ahmed, Rs50,000. In case of default, he will have to undergo an additional six-month term.
Police had caught Hafeez red-handed attempting to flee the scene after depriving one, Mohammed Imran, of his cellular phone at gun point in Gizri on Dec 28, 2005. His accomplice, Akhter, however, had managed to flee.
Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Munawwar Sultana sentenced three car snatchers to 10-year rigorous imprisonment.
The convicts, Abdul Ghafoor, Ataullah alias Kamran and Mohammed Ayub, were arrested by the Anti-car Lifting Cell (ACLC) on May 18, 2003 in Defence. Police had also recovered a snatched vehicle and illegal weapons from their possession.
The convicts have also been ordered to pay Rs500,000 each as fine and, in cause of default, undergo an additional six-month term.
