KARACHI: Research on Islamic economics urged


KARACHI, Sept 29: The vice-chancellor of Karachi University Dr Pirzada Qasim said that the Ummah could not attain progress and prosperity without gaining expertise in economic affairs besides higher education in science and technology.

Speaking at a prize distribution ceremony in Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, the vice-chancellor announced the approval of diploma in Islamic banking and finance.

He stressed the need for conducting research and writing analytical and observational papers on positive impacts of Islamic banking on economy of unprivileged countries.

By utilizing Islamic economics in its true letter and spirit a significant improvement in the economy could be achieved at a faster rate, he said.

This subject was not new for Pakistanis, as many world famous economists of Pakistan were enjoying key posts in the international financial organisations, and they had proved their competence, he said.

Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre Director Dr Khalilur Rehman explained the outlay of courses and programmes which were being offered at the centre. He said that 30 per cent of the courses being offered at the centre were computer-related subjects.

Later, a software exhibition was inaugurated.—PPI
