KARACHI, Sept 29: People continued to suffer due to hours-long power failures as the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation miserably failed to ensure an interrupted power supply to most of its consumers on Friday.
The KESC, which was faced with an almost 100 megawatt shortfall in power generation, claimed that it enforced load-shedding of one hour on a rotation basis across the city. However, consumers from various localities complained of load-shedding running into many hours and having been resorted to repeatedly.
A woman consumer from Parsi Colony, Soldier Bazaar No.1, said that her locality remained without power when people woke up for Sehri. Again, a three-hour long shutdown was carried out in the evening. She said that the KESC was bound to provide a smooth power supply and the National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority should take cognizance of recurring interruptions that were creating problems for consumers. She said the KESC must make alternative arrangements to meet any shortfall and ensure an uninterrupted supply to every consumer.
A consumer from Bahadurabad said that the power supply was suspended in the area several times during Thursday night Friday.
He said despite absence of power for hours every day, there was no reflection of the less supply and consumption in the monthly bills which continued to show hefty amounts.
Another consumer calling from Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Block-16-A said that the power supply to his locality was repeatedly disrupted due to which people could not have a sound sleep.
