ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: The Central Board of Revenue on Friday clarified that mentioning of new Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number on all tax declarations as well as for making payment of tax is compulsory/mandatory and there has been no change in this regard.
CBR spokesperson Habib Fakhrudin in a statement issued here further clarified that mentioning of CNIC on the tax declarations and filing of copy of CNIC with tax declarations were two different issues which should not be mixed up.
He said filing copy of CNIC along with the tax declarations for the tax year 2006 was made obligatory to ensure the accuracy of the CNIC quoted in the relevant tax declarations and tax deposit slips.
Taxpayers, bars, chambers, etc., approached the CBR and highlighted the problems in filing copy of CNIC with the tax declarations.
In order to facilitate the taxpayers, he said it had been decided that all returns without a copy of the CNIC would be accepted by all field offices and proper acknowledgment issued subject to mentioning of the CNIC number on the tax declaration forms.
Taxpayers are in their own interest advised to file the copy of CNIC as early as possible, for proper identification of their declarations. To further facilitate the taxpayers, the period of three days fixed earlier for the filing of copy of CNIC has been extended to 15 days, the spokesperson added.
