By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 28: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday said the Pakistan Muslim League government had restored the country’s diplomatic, economic and political image and it would contest the next year’s general election on the basis of its performance.

Talking to former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House, Mr Aziz reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing stability and development to Balochistan. He said a holistic development approach had been adopted to achieve this objective by simultaneously undertaking political and economic initiatives.

He said the number of uplift projects under implementation in Balochistan was unprecedented in the country’s history and added that the focus was on providing facilities of clean drinking water, electricity, roads, healthcare and education to people at their doorsteps.

The premier said that in view of emerging job opportunities in Balochistan, a programme had been started to impart skills to local people so that they could fill those vacancies. Mr Jamali discussed with the prime minister the political situation and development projects in Balochistan.

At a separate meeting, the prime minister Aziz discussed the parliamentary calendar of the upcoming National Assembly session with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Sher Afghan Khan Niazi.

The premier said as part of its reform agenda the government was amending various laws and introducing legislations to make those laws compatible with developments taking place at the domestic and international levels.

Dr Niazi apprised the prime minister about the legislative business planned for the upcoming NA session, expectedly to start from Oct 4.

Meanwhile, the Auditor-General of Pakistan informed the prime minister that Pakistan had been elected next chairman of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institution.
