PESHAWAR, Sept 28: A widow has appealed to the NWFP governor and the chief minister to provide protection to her family from a man trying to occupy her land.
Speaking at a press conference at the press club here on Thursday, Zahida Nasreen of Landi Arbab, an old village near Peshawar, said she had paid Rs250,000 to Shaukat, a resident of Bazeed Khel, through members of a jirga in 2003.
She said Shaukat had given in writing that all matters with her family had been resolved and that he would not make any further financial demand.
However, she alleged, Shaukat was a professional land-grabber and now wanted to forcibly occupy her land in the village.
The woman said she had built an inn on the land to earn some money for her family, but Shaukat and his armed companions had stormed the inn and asked her sons to vacate it. She said the accused was threatening her family with eviction.
She said she had complained to local police but they were taking no action against the accused.
She alleged that some accomplices of Shaukat had tried to kidnap her son, Faisal, near Amin Chowk on Sept 13, but had run away after seeing a police mobile.
