Compensation paid to heirs of rain victims in Mirpurkhas

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 28: A total amount of Rs600,000 as compensation has been paid to the heirs of 10 people, who died during recent heavy rains in the district, under directives of the Sindh government.
Mirpurkhas DCO Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah said on Thursday that Rs100,000 each has been paid to the heirs of bread winner of the family Mohammad Alam and Ghulam Rasool, whereas Rs50,000 each were paid to the heirs of non-bread winners Ramoo, Aqeel alias Tanvir Ahmed, Ms Munira, Intekhab Alam, Shahbaz, Khair Mohammad, Raj Bai and seven-month-old Haresh.
SENTENCED: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-I, Mohammad Aslam Shaikh, on Thursday awarded one year rigorous imprisonment to Mohammad Ishtiaque and fined him Rs5,000. In default of payment of fine, he would have to undergo one more month in prison.
The accused had issued a bogus cheque of Rs270,000 to a trader, Mohammad Zahid Arain, which was dishonoured. Ishtiaque had given cheque to Zahid Arain for which FIR under section 489-F was lodged on October 31, 2003, with the town police of Mirpurkhas.
UPLIFT PROJECTS: DCO Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah has said that development projects should be completed within the stipulated time while using funds in accordance with rules and regulation.
He was presiding over a meeting of the district development committee in his office here on Thursday which was attended by EDOs of revenue, works and services and concerned officers.
The meeting approved schemes of repair and renovation work of the civil hospital worth Rs19 million and construction of the office of the taluka nazim of Kot Ghulam Mohammed at a cost of Rs15 million.
FIVE INJURED: Five sisters were seriously injured when the roof of their house collapsed in ward No.12 Gharibabad, Digri town, on Thursday due to its dilapidated condition.
The injured were identified as Nazia, Nighat, Farhat, Sofia and Sadaf. They were taken to the taluka hospital of Digri.
Three of them were admitted there while Nazia and Nighat were referred to Hyderabad from Mirpurkhas civil hospital due to their precarious condition.
