KARACHI, Sept 28: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Thursday issued directive for ensuring completion of development work in the city within the stipulated period without compromising on quality and standards.
He issued the directive during his visit to various parts of the city on Wednesday night.
Talking to the officials concerned at the sites of the ongoing schemes, Dr Ibad emphasised on day and night work to complete them ahead of schedule.
He pointed out that due to the absence of development in the past, and the unaddressed problems persisting for years, a large number of incomplete projects had got accumulated.
It was the governor’s second long visit during the week in which he reviewed development schemes, road repair and carpeting work, matters relating to law and order, Ramazan arrangements and Eid shopping arrangements.
The areas visited by the governor included Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Pak Colony, Garden, Old City, I. I. Chundrigar Road, M. A. Jinnah Road, Clifton, etc.
He also reviewed renovation and repair of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine and Kothari Parade, besides construction of Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim.
City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, DCO Fazlur Rehman, CCPO Niaz Siddiqui, DIG operations Mushtaq Shah and other senior officials accompanied the governor in the visit.
Dr Ibad stressed on a better flow of traffic in front of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine and pedestrians’ unhindered access to the Mazar.
He pointed out that front shops had been shifted to some other place for the beautification and sanctity of the Mazar. He cautioned that such problems must not emerge again. He expressed his displeasure over the slow pace of work being carried out within the Mazar’s courtyard, and called for accelerating the same.
He also stressed on hygienic atmosphere for pilgrims and other visitors at the langar gah, ablution place and toilets and said that the Mazar’s vicinity be kept cleared of addicts and criminals.
While reviewing the development work at Bagh Ibn-i-Qasim and Kothari Parade, the governor had an appraisal from the officials concerned regarding plantation, renovation of the Kothari Parade, lighting and sanitation arrangements, parking place, use of recycled water for Children’s Park and the facilities meant for recreation. He issued necessary directives in this regard.
Dr Ibad stressed on providing an appropriate number of toilets in different directions of the 100-acre park. He emphasised on maintaining symmetry in the architectural design the park, the Kothari Parade and Beach Park so that this grand complex of various projects could become an attractive and beautiful place.
Reviewing the repair and carpeting of roads and ongoing work on underpasses, the governor received briefing on specific details about the utility lines and sewerage system being laid through the underpasses. He made it clear that no problem should emerge once the construction was completed.
Talking to people on the occasion, the governor said that government was making every effort to control price-hike. In this regard, he referred to the action being taken against those indulged in overcharging and hoarding, and noted that raids and arrests were taking place every day in this respect.
The governor said that along with the emergency measures to control price-hike and improve the availability of consumer items, plans were also afoot for the establishment of more vegetable markets, providing farmers direct access to local markets, etc.
He said efforts were also under way, in cooperation with the police, Rangers, town administrations, shopkeepers and traders’ associations, to ensure security, a smooth traffic flow and better environment at shopping centres during Ramazan.—APP
