GUJRANWALA, Sept 27: Traders and shopkeepers seemingly outwitted the Qila Dedar Singh town administration by thwarting an ongoing anti-encroachment operation violently on Wednesday.

Reports said the town administration launched an anti-encroachment operation and demolished projections and platform erected by most of the shopkeepers to help remove hurdles to the smooth traffic flow in bazaars.

While the operation was being conducted, the traders and shopkeepers attacked the anti-encroachment staff, injuring some of the officials.

The administration had got registered a case against as many as 106 people, including half-a-dozen traders, for violently resisting the operation.

As the tension ran high on the issue, District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat intervened to arrange a `ceasefire’ between the parties by getting delayed the operation till Eidul Fitr.

It was agreed that the traders and shopkeepers would pay Rs10,000 to each of the official injured during the operation, besides seeking their apology, while the town administration would take back the case.
