KARACHI: Fisheries sector’s problems to be solved, says CS
KARACHI, Sept 27: A meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman at his office on Wednesday decided to take steps for resolving issues and providing basic facilities to the fishing community in the province.
The meeting decided that secretary, fisheries, Dr Mohammad Siddique Memon, would hold meetings with representatives of the fishing community and after consultation would submit a detailed report in a week containing recommendations for ensuring livelihood of the community.
The representatives of different organizations of fishing community also attended the meeting and highlighted the problems being faced by the fishing community at Keenjhar and Manchhar lakes, Kotri downstream, Chilya Bund and other fishing points in Sanghar, Thatta, Ibrahim Hyderi and other areas of Sindh.
The meeting decided to facilitate the fishermen of various fishing points like Manchhar and Keenjhar lakes and Kotri downstream taking steps for reduction in the license fees.
The meeting also decided to establish nurseries, seed centres, schools, hospitals, construct roads, water supply and drainage schemes in the villages of fishermen for which the process would be initiated to include such schemes in ADP.
The chief secretary also called for submitting a detailed report about 1260 fishing points of Sindh which would be presented in the beginning of October.
The meeting decided to evolve line of action for ending contract system that restricts fishing.—PPI
