MULTAN, Sept 26: Muzaffargarh police have failed to arrest the accused who stripped a 12-year-old girl in a village near Sheher Sultan town to teach her brother a lesson for having `illicit relations’ with a woman of their family.
The Sheher Sultan police which have registered the case do not agree that the stripping took place on Friday last. It believe that the girl’s family has fabricated the stripping story to make its case `strong’.
Quoting villagers after visiting Mauza Kapahi Kharwala, union council nazim concerned and the Muzaffargarh district nazim rejected the police stand and said Momina was lifted from her house by her neighbours and made to stand naked in front of public for two hours.
She was reportedly spared when an elder of the accused Hazoor Bakhash family declared that the `revenge was over.’
When her bothers visited the police station to lodge a case, they were reportedly detained in a case already registered against them on the complaint of a woman of the Hazoor Bakhash family. At present they are on judicial remand.
Qamarul Zaman, the Shaher Sultan SHO, said that a case against some members of the Hazoor Bakhash family had been registered under sections 452, 354, 148 and 149. Their hunt, he said, was on.
Momina’s family said the police had registered a case of trespassing and dropped sections concerning forcible stripping.
PROTEST: Local transporters are vehemently opposing terminal and loading fees.
They held a protest camp at Katchehri Chowk on Monday and said that the city district contractors were over charging from wagons.
A spokesman of the city district government said transporters were not completing their routes and hence the administration was making wagon drivers to pay the tax at Chowk Kumharanwala.
He warned of route cancellation in case transporters resorted to strike.
He said the city district government had spent Rs 150 million on the construction of the general bus stand and hence the taxation was justified.
Meanwhile, local traders have threatened shutterdown and wheel jam strike against the withholding tax on cash withdrawals.
