RAWALPINDI, Sept 26: A condemned prisoner died under mysterious circumstances in Adiala jail on Monday night, while a man was shot dead by his friend in the Westridge area on Tuesday, police said.
The Adiala jail authorities said Mohammad Asif, 35, was an epilepsy patient and suffered an attack on Monday night in the death cell and died.
However, DIG jails Abdul Sattar Aajiz was sent to the Adiala jail by IG prisons to inquire into the death and submit a report.
The jail sources said Asif had a clash with another prisoner some two days ago after which he inflicted cuts upon himself. However, the issue was resolved at that time. The sources said Asif complained of chest pain on Monday night and asked the other prisoners to call the doctor. But the jail staff took it lightly because the doctor was not present in the jail.
“Had he been provided timely medical aid, his life could have been saved,” one of the prisoners told Dawn.
Asif along with one of his cousins was booked by the Pind Dadan Khan police on the charge of murder and later he was sentenced to death by the court.
In another incident, a 25-year-old man was shot dead by his friend near Chakra village in Westridge area on Tuesday.
Police said Irtana Hussain had a brawl with Sohail on Monday but the issue was settled. On Tuesday, Irtana Hussain was going home when Sohail intercepted him and shot him dead. Later, the alleged killer surrendered to the police along with the murder weapon.
