LHC liberates 58 bonded labourers

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday helped liberate about 58 people employed in bonded labour at Tarlai. Faraz, hailing from NWFP, filed a habeas corpus petition in the Rawalpindi bench of the court, stating that about 58 people of his family and relatives had been kidnapped and forced into bonded labour by Chaudhary Safdar and Chaudhary Munawar of Tarlai.

These people including women and children are forced to work in the brick kiln of the two Chaudhries, he added.

Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah deputed Basharat Mehmood Khwaja as a bailiff to recover the kidnapped people.

When the bailiff reached the site, he found four houses locked from outside. He broke the locks and recovered the people kept in the houses.

The judge then directed the petitioner to go to the police station concerned and register an FIR against the accused.
