PPP leader decries CM’s statements

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Punjab, information secretary MPA Farzana Raja has said Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has himself contradicted his father’s character by attributing false statements to him.

“I don’t think Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi ever stated that he won’t forgive the Bhutto family and those who disintegrated Pakistan but we all know he did say that he worshipped Shaheed Bhutto. Ulema also issued fatwa (religious decree) against Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi for saying this,” Ms Raja said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

Responding to Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s assertions that the PPP disintegrated Pakistan, she said: “We challenge the chief minister and his allies for an open debate on the issue. It will be clear there and then who dismembered the country.” She added: “It is in fact the regime and its cronies who are damaging the federation, pushing the country into crises and imposing dictatorship.”

Ms Raja said the rulers should first weigh themselves before hurling allegations at the most popular party and leadership. She said it was the PPP which introduced nuclear programme of the country to make its defence impregnable.

The MPA said it was again the PPP which gave voice to the downtrodden people of the country. The PPP polished the image of the country at the international level and held talks with the influential countries on equality basis.

The PPP leader said even now the Chaudhris were part of the regime which had no respect for the rights of the people. She said instead of issuing irresponsible and fake statements the rulers should work for democracy and give way to the true leadership which would be a better thing to do.
